Corroded to Conquered: Hull Repair & Anti-Fouling Services | MI Solutions Dubai

What you see in that before-and-after image is not just a paint job. It is the result of precise engineering, expert blasting technique, and a team that refuses to return a vessel to the sea until it is truly ready. The Ocean Breeze 1 arrived at our facility with heavy corrosion across the hull — rust staining, coating failure, and surface degradation from bow to waterline. What left was a vessel restored to full operational condition, protected by a coating system built to last.

At Marine and Industrial Solutions LLC (MI Solutions), we are a leading ship repair company in Dubai delivering complete hull repair, blasting, and anti-fouling coating services for all vessel types — from bulk carriers and tankers to offshore support vessels. We operate from Dubai Maritime City, serving ship owners across the UAE, Bahrain, India, Sri Lanka, and Africa.

This guide explains exactly how we deliver a transformation like the one you see — and what is included in our hull repair and dry dock services in Dubai.

Why Hull Condition Is the Single Most Important Factor in Vessel Performance

Every shipowner knows that the hull is the vessel’s first line of defence against the sea. What many underestimate is how quickly corrosion spreads — and how severely it impacts performance, fuel efficiency, and structural integrity when left unchecked.

Heavy corrosion creates drag, increases fuel consumption, and weakens the structural steel that keeps the vessel afloat. Anti-fouling breakdown allows marine growth to accumulate, further increasing resistance through the water. In severe cases, pitting corrosion can penetrate steel plating — posing a direct risk to classification status and, ultimately, the vessel’s seaworthiness.

The result? Higher operating costs, more frequent port state control inspections, and the risk of detention. Prevention through proper hull maintenance is always more cost-effective than reactive repair — and when reactive repair is required, it demands the right team with the right process.

Our Complete Hull Repair & Restoration Process

MI Solutions follows a structured, class-compliant process on every hull repair and coating project. Here is what that looks like in practice:

Step 1

Structural Inspection & Condition Assessment

Before any blasting or coating begins, our marine engineers conduct a full structural inspection of the hull. This includes ultrasonic thickness testing on suspect areas, visual assessment of weld seams and plate edges, identification of pitting depth and extent, and a full condition report detailing repair scope and coating specifications.

All findings are documented in line with class society requirements. Where vessel navigation and automation systems require inspection alongside the structural survey, our integrated team handles this concurrently.

Step 2

Hull Blasting & Surface Preparation

Surface preparation is the foundation of any successful coating system. Our team carries out abrasive blasting to SA 2.5 standard — the internationally recognised benchmark for steel surface cleanliness required before protective coating application. We remove all rust, millscale, previous coatings, and contamination to bare metal, creating the anchor profile required for adhesion.

We work to SSPC and ISO 8501 standards, with surface profile measurements recorded prior to coating application. Studies consistently show that surface preparation accounts for over 80% of coating performance — which is why we never compromise at this stage.

Step 3

Hull Structural Repairs & Steel Renewal

Where inspection identifies steel plating corroded beyond acceptable limits, we carry out full steel renewal using certified marine-grade plate. Our certified welders and fabrication team in Dubai work to class society standards, with all weld procedures and welder qualifications documented.

Repairs are subject to NDT inspection before coating proceeds. Where precision components or custom fabricated parts are required — such as anodes, brackets, or pipe sections — our in-house machine shop manufactures to OEM specification.

Step 4

Anti-Fouling Coating Application

With the hull blasted and structural repairs completed, our certified coating applicators apply the full coating system — primer, intermediate coat, and anti-fouling topcoat — to the specified dry film thickness (DFT). We work with leading marine coating manufacturers and apply only approved systems.

All application is carried out in controlled conditions with DFT measurements taken at each coat stage and recorded in a full coating report. This is how we deliver hull coatings that last — and why our clients return project after project. This service is performed as part of our comprehensive dry dock and layup services in Dubai.

Step 5

Final Inspection & Class Documentation

On completion, our quality team carries out a full inspection of the hull coating and structural repairs. All measurements, weld records, coating batch numbers, and DFT readings are compiled into a completion report — providing the documentation required by classification surveyors and port state control. Where LSA and FFA compliance checks are due at the same docking, our certified team handles these concurrently to keep your schedule on track.

What’s Included in Our Hull Repair Services

Make the Most of Every Docking — Related Services We Provide

When your vessel is in dock, it makes sense to address multiple systems simultaneously. MI Solutions provides all the following services under one roof — no subcontracting delays, one point of contact, full coordination:

Marine Mechanical

Main Engine Overhaul & Machinery Inspection

Docking is the ideal time for main engine overhaul, propulsion system inspection, turbocharger reconditioning, and auxiliary machinery repairs. Our marine mechanical engineers in Dubai work across MAN, Wärtsilä, Caterpillar, Sulzer, and all major engine brands.

Marine Electrical

Switchboard, Motor & Generator Servicing

Electrical inspections during docking reduce the risk of failures at sea. Our marine electrical repair team in Dubai covers switchboard faults, motor rewinding, cable installation, shore power, and generator overhaul — all certified to class and flag state standards.

Hydraulic Systems

Steering Gear, Deck Cranes & Hatch Cover Hydraulics

Hydraulic systems power your steering gear, deck cranes, hatch covers, and stabilisers. Our marine hydraulic repair specialists in Dubai carry out pump and motor overhauls, cylinder repairs, hose replacement, valve reconditioning, and full pressure testing during your docking window.

Navigation & Communication

Radar, ECDIS, AIS, GMDSS & Autopilot

Safe navigation depends on fully calibrated bridge systems. Our ship navigation system repair team in Dubai handles radar, ECDIS, AIS, VHF, GMDSS, autopilot, and integrated bridge systems — with all work SOLAS compliant and certified on completion.

LSA & FFA

Life-Saving Appliance Inspection & FFA Servicing

Port state control detentions for LSA and FFA deficiencies are among the most common — and most preventable — delays in shipping. Our certified team provides complete life saving appliance inspection in Dubai, covering lifeboats, EPIRBs, SARTs, fire extinguishers, hydrostatic releases, and immersion suits, with class-approved certification on completion.

HVAC & Refrigeration

Marine HVAC & Refrigeration Repair Dubai

In the extreme heat of the Middle East, HVAC and refrigeration reliability is critical for crew welfare and cargo preservation. Our marine HVAC and refrigeration repair team in Dubai services all marine air conditioning, chiller plants, reefer containers, and cold room systems during your docking.

Fuel System

Fuel Injector, Governor & Pump Overhaul

Poor fuel system performance leads to increased consumption and potential engine damage. Our marine fuel injector repair team in Dubai covers governor overhauls, fuel pump reconditioning, injector testing, and full calibration — restoring optimal performance and reducing operating costs.

Automation Systems

PLC, Engine Room Monitoring & Control

Engine room automation failures cause costly false shutdowns at sea. Our experts in marine automation troubleshooting in Dubai diagnose and repair PLC systems, alarm and monitoring equipment, and integrated bridge automation — keeping your vessel fully operational.

Marine Spare Parts
