Pre-Installation Preparation & Mobilisation

Before work began, the hawse pipe, chain locker, and windlass were inspected to confirm readiness to receive the new anchor and chain. Rigging arrangements were reviewed and the vessel’s crane was set up for the lift.

A tug boat was mobilised to hold position and provide stable support alongside the vessel at Khorfakkan anchorage throughout the operation.

Anchor & Chain Positioning

The new anchor and chain were lifted and positioned using the vessel’s crane, with the tug boat holding the vessel steady to allow controlled, precise handling throughout the lift.

Each length of chain was fed through the hawse pipe and lowered in stages, keeping tension controlled and the anchor correctly oriented for stowage.

Alignment & Connection

With the anchor and chain in position, alignment was carefully checked against the hawse pipe and chain locker before the joining shackle was fitted and secured.

Each connection point was torqued and pinned to specification, confirming the anchor was correctly seated and the chain properly stowed in the locker.

Function Check & Handover

The windlass was operated to run the anchor out and walk it back in, confirming the anchor was free to run, correctly seated in the hawse pipe, and that the chain paid out and stowed cleanly with no fouling.

Once the function check was complete, the tug boat was released and the job data was documented and handed over to the vessel for the ship’s records.

Anchor Ready for Service

The new anchor and chain were positioned, aligned, and connected without incident, and the function check confirmed the anchor was properly seated and free to run.
