Our team received a 75kW ABB seawater pump motor for inspection after a winding failure. What followed was a full rewind and repair, from strip-down through to a satisfactory no-load trial.

Condition on Arrival
The motor arrived assembled, but in rusty and oily condition. On inspection, the winding was found grounded, the non-drive end (NDE) bearing housing was damaged, and the stator and rotor core showed rubbing caused by the NDE bearing failure. No coupling or fan was supplied with the motor.
Rewinding and Mechanical Repair
The motor was stripped down for static electrical testing, and the old coil was removed. As part of our motor rewinding and repair service, the stator was rewound with Class F insulation, the bearing housings were resleeved, and both bearings were replaced. A new terminal connector and space heater were installed, along with new grease cap Allen bolts and a new O-ring on the drive end (DE) bearing housing. The motor was then reassembled to original OEM specification.
Testing and Results
After rewinding, insulation resistance measured 2.0 GΩ across all phases, with balanced winding resistance across all three legs. Mechanical calibration confirmed correct bearing housing and shaft seat dimensions. A no-load trial at rated voltage and frequency showed stable current draw and speed, and vibration readings on both bearings and the motor body were within acceptable limits. All test parameters were found satisfactory.
